A complete rupture occurs in 1% of women who attempt a VBAC. Women with the classic incision (vertical) are more at risk for a complete rupture.
Since there is no attribution for this statistic, I don't know where it was found, but rupture during VBAC typically runs half the risk of 1%, not 1%, and most ruptures are not catastrophic and some are even unrelated to the scar. Women should be warned of the symptoms as they are one of the first and best indicators of rupture.
